The K(+)-potential variations across vesicle membranes were measured in the absence of ATP with a fluorescent probe: 3,3&prime;-dipropylthiodicarbocyanine iodide. Addition of EGTA dissipates the K(+)-potential whereas the presence of TG abolishes this effect.
