J\u00fcrgen Behm, Alberto Varzi, Stefano Passerini<\/p>\n<h4>Abstract:<\/h4>\n<p>Abstract Iron sulfides are promising materials for lithium\u2010 and sodium\u2010ion batteries owing to their high theoretical capacity and widespread abundance. Herein, the performance of an iron sulfide\u2010carbon composite, synthesized from a Fe\u2010based metal\u2013organic framework (Fe\u2010MIL\u201088NH 2 ) is reported. The material is composed of ultrafine Fe 7 S 8 nanoparticles ( &lt; 10 nm in diameter) embedded in a heteroatom (N, S, and O)\u2010doped carbonaceous framework (Fe 7 S 8 @HD\u2010C), and is obtained via a simple and efficient one\u2010step sulfidation process. The Fe 7 S 8 @HD\u2010C composite, investigated in diethylene glycol dimethyl ether\u2010based electrolytes as anode material for lithium and sodium batteries, shows high reversible capacities (930 mAh g \u22121 for lithium and 675 mAh g \u22121 for sodium at 0.1 A g \u22121 ). In situ X\u2010ray diffraction reveals an insertion reaction to occur in the first lithiation and sodiation steps, followed by conversion reactions.
